Pre meal or post meal dose

i don't always take my insulin before I eat  So my question is which ratio do I use when I do give myself insulin. Is 5 minutes after you eat still considered pre meal? What about an hour?  Seems like I've had some lows lately. I think this might be the reason.

Bolusing premeal by at least 10 - 15" is really vital to keeping your post meal blood sugars down.  The only time it is advised to give insulin post meal is if you are low or low ish prior.  Anything post meal, even 5" is not considered pre meal.  If you are going low post meal, it could be a number of things - a higher fat meal, more exercise in the few hours prior, an insulin to carb ratio that is too aggressive, less stress.

Great question.  I wonder if it depends on how each of our bodies processes insulin.  For me, I need to do a pre-meal bolus about 20 minutes before I eat otherwise I go very high.  But it sounds like maybe your body processes insulin faster than mine, so for you 5 minutes after you eat could work the same as pre meal for me.

Does anyone else have any insight on this?
