Something I Know, but Easily Forget.....

Yesterday, after way way way too much time avoiding exercise, I asked my husband if he'd like to go for a run.  Of course, he agreed - he's not the exercise avoider, I am!!  We tried a new running app I downloaded and I found I really enjoyed it.  it felt good and, while I definitely had to push myself, it wasn't as hard as I expected.  Actually, I had expected not to be able to finish the run segments the app gave us, but I completed them all.

So what had I forgotten?  I forgot the power exercise has on my blood sugar.  Things have been going pretty well for me lately, but after the run my blood sugars become pretty amazing.  I hope this will keep me motivated to build running and other exercise back into my daily routine.

Are there diabetes truths you know but easily forget too?  Does it surprise you when you discover them again?  And does it help with diabetes motivation?

That several days of activity and exercise can lead to reactive hypoglycemia if I haven't replenished muscle glycogen with adequate carbs!!

Thanks for pointing that out, TortieGirl.  I do also forget that exercise doesn't necessarily just improve my blood sugar, but sometimes can cause lows for several days.
